There are some amazing gardens within 20 minutes drive and a wealth
of wildlife to be seen in the 'Lake District Peninsula' and breath taking

To many people Cartmel is best known for its race course, just a
few yards from the village square where meetings are held in May and
August, it is also home to the village cricket team.
climate
The area is renowned for its mild climate generated by the Gulf
stream washing over Morecambe Bay, and nearby Grange over Sands has a
higher temperature in Spring than any other place in the North of England.

The site chosen for Cartmel Priory was sheltered from strong winds
by surrounding hills and offered the monks, as it does today's visitors, a
pleasant haven at all times of the year.

Fish in some of the finest and most scenic private waters in Cumbria.
Private game and coarse fishing is available to our guests without charge
on Grasmere, Rydal Water the rivers Rothay and Brathay as well as Ghyll
Head trout fishery and several tarns. Tuition can be arranged.
sailing
Go windsurfing. Most water sports are available nearby and can be
arranged.
riding
A superb place to go riding with a choice of local riding
establishments offering different specialisations. Most country pursuits
are also available nearby.
